A Dream Wedding

Set in the hills of Jonesborough, Tennessee at the newly-built Serenity Knoll wedding venue, two wonderful people were wed: Kirsty and Clay. The day before, a storm hit the area that caused much debris and fallen trees, but the day of the wedding the clouds parted just enough to grace the wedding attendants with a magical day.

I arrived at the Historic Eureka Inn in Downtown Jonesborough, TN to photograph the bride and do her makeup. Kirsty's wedding dress (designed, dyed and constructed by her) hung on the armoire in the spectacular Jury Room of the hotel. Her hair was braided and adorned with flowers and beads by the talented Katie Williams of the Downtown Beauty Lounge, also located in Jonesborough. With the handmade paper-flower rainbow bouquet, the dress, the hair, the makeup...it all came together perfectly- and matched the bride's personality in a way that one might call kismet.

The ceremony began with the bride and groom dancing hand-in-hand down the aisle with a meditation to follow. In the meditative silence the only sound was the quite movement of the colorful prayer flags hanging overhead in the pavilion of Serenity Knoll. Immediately following the ceremony came cake before dinner, at the request of the bride and groom. The colorful, unique cake, created by Maxine Kenny, Steve Brooks and Gareth Zahnke, was cut and distributed first much to the delight of everyone. And it tasted heavenly.

The reception featured a dinner with foods from the newlywed's and others' farms enjoyed at tables decorated with magnificent floral arrangements. Following the dinner was a Contra Dance with live music that continued through sunset. And oh my, the sunset; after a storm, nature provides us with the most impressive, vibrant sunsets. Mother Nature really knows how to cap off a day like this.

Chelsea + Dylan {Wedding in Johnson City, Tennessee}

On June 25, 2016, I photographed the Chelsea and Dylan's wedding at The Gallery event venue in Johnson City, Tennessee. There were so many stand-out moments at this wedding that made this day a delight to capture. A special thank you to Gabriel for being second photographer, and a shout out to Lisa Tolliver of Posh Productions for making the day run so smoothly (highly recommend her as your wedding planner). Bridal Session in Jonesborough, Tennessee

Bridal Look: Modern Romance

This is Abby, and she is beautiful inside and out. It was such a pleasure taking her picture for this mock-bridal session in collaboration with Downtown Beauty Lounge in Jonesborough, Tennessee. I styled her in two wedding dress sets and fresh flowers and ferns in her hair.  And if you keep up with my blog, you know how much I love to DIY props for shoots; totally did that with the bouquet below and want to do that for a living now (JK I have too many jobs already).

Sometimes, I'll do makeup for folks when I take their photos, and both of Abby's outfits feature a natural bridal makeup look; one neutral, one dramatic. Most brides want to look like themselves on their wedding day, so that's always my goal when styling their makeup or overall look. And I'm really loving minimalist jewelry with bridal dresses right now, and here, I used a simple gold choker and vintage bangle to balance out and modernize both looks.

I know I say this often, but I have to reiterate just how much I love taking photos. I over-prepare (by making props and such haha), stress out and triple-check all of my equipment in the days before a session, and question whether or not I'm actually good at what I went to school for, but when the shoot is over, I'm always so happy, so content; especially when I work with people who seem to genuinely enjoy working with me. This shoot was one of those magical ones where everything came together so perfectly and the team meshed so well. Cannot wait to work with Abby and Katie again!
